LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Apply current evidence-based screening recommendations for DME
  • Describe multidisciplinary approaches to help patients access eye examination for DME detection and wholistic diabetes care with a focus on strategies to improve access and care for under resourced communities
  • Discuss the rationale and urgent need for optometrists to work collaboratively with ophthalmologists to confirm a diagnosis of DME early and facilitate access to treatment
  • Recognize the promise of the growing pipeline for management of DME to maintain or improve visual acuity and reduce the need for frequent injection

TARGET AUDIENCE

The intended audience for this activity are optometrists, ophthalmologists, specialty NPs, and nurses who diagnose and treat DME.

ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE

This activity should take approximately 1 hour to complete.

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION

There are no fees to participate in this activity. To participate in the activity, go to www.ClinicalSeriesLive.com. To receive credit, participants must (1) read the target audience, learning objectives, and disclosure statements, (2) complete the educational activity online, and (3) complete the post-test and activity evaluation. To receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, participants must receive a minimum score of 70% on the post-test.

HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

Participants will need a computer with a recent version of Adobe Flash installed, as well as an internet connection sufficient for streaming media.
