Mark T. Dunbar, OD, FAAO, has been a member of the optometric staff at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, for almost 30 years, where he is currently director of optometric services and the optometric residency supervisor. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, as well as a founding member of both the Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS) and the Optometric Retina Society (ORS). Dr Dunbar also serves on the editorial boards for Advanced Ocular Care and Review of Optometry, where he writes the monthly column, “The Retina Quiz.” He graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, and completed an ocular disease fellowship at the Omni Eye Services of Lexington, Kentucky.

Rishi Singh, MD, is a staff surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Florida, Professor of Ophthalmology at the Lerner College of Medicine, and President of Cleveland Clinic Martin Hospitals in Stuart, FL. He specializes in the treatment of medical and surgical retinal disease such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Singh has authored more than 200 peer reviewed publications and serves as the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials advancing the treatment of retinal disease. Dr. Singh is the former president on the Retina World Congress and is on the board of the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Singh has been honored with several research recognitions such as the Alpha Omega Alpha Research Award.

Fran Doll is a 76-year-old mother, grandmother and child safety advocate based in Akron, Ohio, and has been living with macular degeneration since 2011. According to Ms Doll, macular degeneration significantly impacts her life–it limits her independence, and makes completing daily tasks and engaging in activities challenging. It affects her ability to drive distances far from home or in areas where she needs to rely on reading street signs. Dressing and putting on jewelry, reading books and magazines, and watching television are difficult as well. Ms Doll says that because she is unable to identity faces from a distance, the condition also causes embarrassment in social situations, especially when someone is waving at her or trying to capture her attention.
